Day 1

The tour starts in Frankfurt, Goethe’s hometown and today a very modern metropolis which nevertheless offers many historic sites such as the Römerberg with its beautifully restored half-timbered houses, of course the Goethe Haus where the world famous poet once lived, the Paulskirche, symbol for democracy and freedom in Germany, “Alt-Sachsenhausen”, where in Schellgasse number 6 you will find Frankfurt’s oldest half-timbered house which was built in 1291, to name only a few of Frankfurt’s historic landmarks. Don’t miss out on Frankfurt’s “Zeil”, a huge pedestrian zone where shopping is the name of the game.

Day 2

Take the train from Frankfurt to Stuttgart and reach in a little over an hour. Visit the Klösterle (“little cloister”) in Bad Cannstatt or the Alte Kanzlei (“old chambers”) as well as the Fruchtkasten on Schillerplatz with its collection of musical instruments and the Schlossplatz (palace square). But there are also 2 modern sights which are worthwhile: the Porschemuseum in Zuffenhausen and the Mercedes Benz Museum in Bad Cannstatt, both can be easily reached by public transport from Stuttgart’s main station. Last but not least let the day’s events pass by while you enjoy a glass of wine and a swabian dish in the Schellenturm (Schellentower), which was built in 1564 and was used as a prison, today it is more pleasantly used as a wine tavern

Day 3

In around two hours you will reach Munich, the Bavarian metropolis by train. Munich is close to the German Alps and in the heart of Europe. This extraordinary city combines modern life with lively history like no other. Visit Munich’s old town which boasts of 850 years of history with its Marienplatz (Marien square) where 3 times each day thousands of people are spell bound when the world famous Glockenspiel (carillon) starts its beautiful song. Visit and marvel at the Frauenkirche, the town’s landmark, do not miss the Hofbräuhaus and find out why the Münchner (inhabitants of Munich) don’t want to miss out on their “Brotzeit” (a meal or snack consisting of bread, cold cut, cheese and so on, usually enjoyed between breakfast and lunch).

Day 4

Your last train journey will drop you off in Salzburg (Austria) which is the birthplace of the great composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and is a town dominated by churches, palaces and castles. Visit the Princely Residence, a magnificent baroque building with its splendid halls and Salzburg Cathedral, which is probably the main attraction of the Old Town and the place where Mozart was baptized. The tour ends in Salzburg.
